Writing songs is an outlet for Minneapolis-based lawyer turned songwriter Sean Shiff, allowing him to delve deeply into a wide range of issues personal to him, including politics, nature, climate change, watching children grow up, difficult relationships, true love, friends who have passed away, gay rights, COVID, and various people throughout history and their cause, including Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Walt Whitman, and Jesus.
Bio
Sean Shiff has no musical pedigree to speak of. No hit songs. No sold out shows. In fact, no shows, period. He has no band, he doesn’t perform his music live (no one does), and he doesn’t sing on his recordings. He didn’t attend a prestigious musical program (or any program), and other than piano lessons for a year or two at age 8 and guitar lessons for 6 months in 1996, he has no musical training at all. Instead, after graduating from the University of Minnesota (CSM) in 1992 and from William Mitchell College of Law in 1996, he went on to private practice in Minneapolis. Nothing even remotely close to music or songwriting. So, why are you even reading this? It’s probable that you have a curious mind, one that Sean’s new EP – No (Country for Old) Kings – seeks to reward with lyrics that are the right combination of bold, funny, and direct. Whether he hit the target is decided case-by-case but even then based almost entirely on the first letter of your political party.
